Here are a few ways to arrive to your apartment from Riga Airport:
Upon arriving perhaps you will notice a few taxis waiting by the airport exit. Unfortunately, rarely yet occasionally, scams do occur and choosing the wrong taxi might lead to an astronomical taxi fee at the end of your trip. Here are some legitimate taxi companies we recommend using:
● Baltic Taxi +371 20 008 500
● Red Cab Taxi +371 60 008 383
We also offer private taxi transfers for our guests (up to 4 people) to ensure a safe and pleasant arrival. There is no fixed pricing so it depends a bit on traffic and distance but your trip should not cost more than 35-40 EUR. In order for us to arrange a transfer you would have to inform us at least one day prior and provide us with the following details:
● Full first and last name
● Phone number
● Number of people arriving
● Arrival time
● Where you are flying from
● Flight number
● If you have checked in luggage
Usually await a white Ford car. The driver will wait for you at the arrivals gate holding a sign (just in case the operator’s phone number: is +371 8383)
You can also use the taxi app “Bolt” which is cheaper than regular taxis. Download the app from the application store on your phone, connect it to your bank account, enter your destination address, and enjoy the ride! There is also an option to pay in cash – remember to mark it as your form of payment in the app.
“Rigas Satiksme” is the only public transport company that carries out passenger transportation in Riga and its immediate surroundings by buses, trolleybuses, and trams. In Riga, traffic consists of 6 tram routes, 18 trolley bus routes, and 51 bus routes, as well as of express buses.
You can take bus No. 22 (Lidosta-Abrenes iela) – it takes around 30 minutes to the city center and you need to get off at the bus stop called “Centrala stacija”. Check Google maps to see where you need to go further.
The bus ticket costs 1,50 euros and you have to buy it in advance in the kiosk “Narvesen”. A one-time bus ticket is valid for 90 minutes and you can change transportation as much as you need during this time.
The only transport that has a ticket vending machine inside of it are trams – at the very front. There is no option of buying a ticket upon boarding a bus or trolley bus.
When looking for a place to buy a public transport ticket – mainly they are sold in kiosks and gas stations (all “Circle-K” gas stations and “Narvesen” kiosks).
Different types of tickets:
A single time-ticket:
When buying a single ticket (called “e-talons”) it cannot be recharged for future trips – you have to buy a new one. This ticket costs 1,50 euros and you have to buy it in advance before entering the public transport. A one-time bus ticket is valid for 90 minutes and you can change transportation as much as you need during this time.
If you buy a single ticket for 3 EUR, it will last you 180 minutes (3 hrs).
The tickets are valid on all of the routes operated by “Rīgas satiksme” – buses, trams, and trolleybuses. Once you have your ticket ready and you have boarded the public transport, scan the ticket on the gray ticket reader to register your trip. You don’t need to do anything when exiting the transportation.
A day(s) ticket:
If you plan to go sightseeing in different places around Riga, perhaps a day ticket is more convenient for you if you plan on using public transport all day. A one-day ticket can be used for 24 hours starting from the time when it’s first registered inside the transport, with the option to travel on any tram, trolleybus, or bus route (the ticket must be registered each time another public transport vehicle (tram, trolleybus, or bus) is boarded.
The same applies to a 3-day ticket and a 5-day ticket. Prices are 5 eur (24 H), 8 eur (3 days), 10 eur (5 days).
A code ticket:
A code ticket is a method of payment in any “Rīgas satiksme” public transport, which allows you to make payments for the trips with a smartphone in online mode. In order to use the code ticket you will have to install a mobile application on your smartphone. (GooglePlay and App Store) :
● “Rīgas satiksmes” lietotne braucienu biļešu iegādei
● Mobilly
● Narvesen LV
● Transact Pro
How to use it?
● Open the downloaded application and buy a single (90-minute) ticket. Up to 10 single tickets can be purchased in the application.
● When entering public transport, scan the code or enter the identification number (each tram, trolley bus, and the bus has a unique five-digit identification number. The identification numbers are visible both below the QR code and inside and outside the transport vehicle).
● In case of ticket control, present a scanned ticket to the controller.

Another fun way to get around for shorter distances in Riga are green Bolt electric scooters. You can find them all over Riga marked with the white “Bolt” logo. You will need the Bolt application installed on your smartphone – scan the scooter’s QR code and the scooter will be activated. It’s a cheaper way of transportation than taxis if you are going a short distance. During winter, these scooters are not available due to safety reasons.
!! An important thing to note about these scooters is that the pavement in Riga can sometimes be damaged and going at high speeds with the electric scooter might lead to serious injuries. And most importantly – it’s forbidden to drive with these scooters under the influence. Police here are keeping a close eye on people who drive with them whilst intoxicated and prosecution follows immediately.!!
Street parking is free of charge on workdays until 8 AM and after 8 PM. On Saturdays, it is free of charge until 9 AM and after 5 PM. On Sundays and National Holidays, it is free all day.
