Food Markets

Riga’s Central Market

Here you can find the freshest selection of fish, meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, confectionery, spices, honey, nuts, and other delicious local and imported products. You will also find a large variety of flower shops, some delicacy stalls, and souvenirs. The market is the best during summertime and autumn – during this time it has the largest variety of products and a lively vibe as the sellers work both indoors and outdoors.

Riga’s Central Market has also gained notoriety regarding tourism – today, the market is a popular shopping destination as well as an interesting tourist attraction. It is still one of the largest market squares in European city centers.

Āgenskalns Market

Āgenskalns Market stands as the neighborhood’s largest and oldest, honored as a national cultural monument. The renewed pavilion’s first floor houses local goods from farmers, home producers, and traders. Upstairs, enjoy bars and cafes to enjoy freshly made foods and drinks. For several years every Sunday, Āgenskalns market has been hosting the flea market – clothing, works of art, interior decorations, photo cameras, books, plants, and other selected, unusual items can be found in the market. Several times a month, the market also hosts thematic events and markets dedicated to a specific theme, such as the Potato Festival, Pumpkin Harvest Festival, Plant Based Product Market etc. Address: Nometņu iela 64

Souvenir / Gift shops

Traditional Latvian souvenirs beautifully reflect the country’s nature, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. If you’re looking for something authentic to bring home, here are some of the most popular and meaningful choices:

Latvia is especially known for its hand-knitted wool mittens and socks, featuring ancient Baltic symbols and intricate geometric patterns. These designs are not just decorative — many of them carry symbolic meanings rooted in Latvian folklore.

Another iconic souvenir is amber jewelry. Baltic amber, often called “Latvian gold,” has been found along the shores of the Baltic Sea for centuries. From delicate pendants to modern minimalist pieces, amber jewelry is one of the most treasured gifts from Latvia.

Beautifully crafted wooden items are also very popular — plates, spoons, cutting boards, and kitchen utensils made from local wood reflect Latvia’s deep connection to forests and nature. Each piece often highlights natural textures and simple, functional design.

Traditional Latvian pottery and ceramics are earthy and rustic, often featuring natural glazes and timeless shapes. These pieces are both decorative and practical, perfect for adding a touch of Baltic charm to any home.

You can also find:

  • Linen textiles such as tablecloths, towels, and aprons
  • Handmade candles, especially beeswax candles
  • Black Balsam (Riga Black Balsam) — Latvia’s famous herbal liqueur
  • Locally made chocolates and honey products
  • Items decorated with traditional Lielvārde belt patterns, one of Latvia’s most recognizable ethnographic symbols

Latvian souvenirs are simple, natural, and meaningful — perfect for those who appreciate authentic craftsmanship and cultural stories behind each piece.
